While Disney amusement parks get most of the attention when it comes
to an amusement park focused vacation, there are many other amazing
theme parks around the world that are worth visiting too. This
article will hopefully open readers up to a wonderful theme park
based in the Netherlands known as Efteling. Based
in Kaatsheuvel Netherlands the rides and attractions are based on
ancient myths, legends, fairy tales, fables, and folklore.
The
park opened in 1952, originally a nature park with a playground.
Efteling is now the
largest amusement park in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in
the world and twice as large as the original Disneyland park in
California. The success of Efteling has been attributed to the parks
architecture, ride design and meticulous gardening. Over the years,
Efteling has grown from just a theme park into the fully realized
cluster of entertainment properties one expects. In addition to the
park, the compound includes a resort, 18 hole golf course, high end
theatre venue, and extended stay vacation bungalows. The park is now
open year-round and has found ways to entertain guests during the
winter season.
Now
approaching its 65th anniversary Efteling's
newest planned attraction, Symbolica, promises to be a dazzling new
addition to the park. Planned to be an indoor ride Symbolica will be
a palace of fantasy where guests can take route on adventures in a
wondrous dream-like world. As guests enter the ride, they will be
organized into groups of six. Each group is then guided onto a
carriage where they decide their fate. The choice between three paths
and each is set to enlighten guests with interactive technology as
they journey inside this palace of fantasy. See the video below for a
first in a series
about the planning of Symbolica (English subtitles available).
